Derby doesn’t have a wealth of great public art, so when I went for my walk around the city at the end of June I was relieved to find that the Boy and Ram statue is in good condition and in a rather pleasant setting in the Riverside Gardens.
Created by Wilfred Dudeney, the statue was unveiled in 1963 and originally sited in the Castlefields Main Centre until it was demolished a few years ago to make way for the Westfield Centre. The Derby Ram folk song suggests it should be somewhat larger in size than the statue depicts!
